(WFT: 33.68 0.00%)@41.99 (split adjusted)
(WLT: 74.40 0.00%)@83.87
The market will reverse and continue to trade up from here.
I expect an outcry of dissension, since many of you are just trying to do your job. Know this: I am a contrary bearshitter (which means I’m bullish).
I will update any new trades and the performance going forward. Look over my shoulder and see how much money I can make (or lose).

Damn! I am feeling pretty bullish as well, S&P bounced right off it’s trendline.
Just picked up some EQIX.
Dated my post a few minutes before you, so that this money making post can stay on top for a while.

We seem to be on the same wavelength more often than not. Odd, no?
(Disclaimer: Ragin’ Cajun is not my “alter ego”, nor am I his.)
May 12th, 2008 at 1:14 pmWOW. This is why you are ALPHAdawg. I have to admire your conviction. Go Alpha, dooo it, dooo it now!
I’ve been looking at buying AKS myself.
May 12th, 2008 at 1:28 pmlol, and I loaded up on a few names too…
May 12th, 2008 at 1:44 pmbought RIMM, PCU, GNK, ACI and slightly OTM calls in DDM and USO
Swapped to take gains in TBSI.
Not going to sit on PCU for long we’ll have to see if PCU can hold/rally before the close, otherwize it’s gone for a minor loss.

A concentrated stock portfolio with only 20 stocks can exhibit some healthy variance, from time to time. I’m not telling you anything you don’t know already, but I will tell you that I’ve developed a system that buys and holds stocks that even though are volatile, have resiliency and tend to bounce back after getting hammered.
These are not for the faint of heart, however. I intend to hold each of these for up to a 20% stop loss, if need be. They need room to breathe. This approach garnered me a 34% return last year for this strategy, with about a 55% turnover rate.
This group of stocks are in my “alpha” strategy. I use a “core/tactical” approach, where you have your basic large cap, mid-cap, small cap core allocation, designed to keep pace with the indexes, and then add alpha using selected “focus” stocks.
One of these days, I may post something on portfolio strategy. However, it seems like many on this blog are madcap gunslinging traders, so a post on that subject might be a “yawner” (with crickets).
May 12th, 2008 at 1:47 pmnot at all to me. I may cater to an audience, but it doesn’t necessarily reflect where my stock interests always lie. All of my LT stocks I’ve seen draw down at least 20% from high to trough. In conjunction with my theory that a bullish stock won’t fall more than 30% from peak to trough during a correction.
I would post it if you get the chance.
May 12th, 2008 at 1:53 pmAlpha, I would love to hear your Core/tactical strategy. I’m always interested in money management/asset allocation strategies. Personally, I’m more interested in becoming a better investor, not finding the better investment, one of the reasons I come here is to get another perspective and other strategies, concepts and ideas.
May 12th, 2008 at 1:57 pmAnd hell, you’re not a “small fry” PG poster (or as chinaman says “smarr fly”). You got your own tab now. Post what you like, and if it’s not for them, make other people learn to like it.
Alphadawg, I would be very interested in your portfolio and asset allocation strategies. A 20% stop loss is A-ok with me for long term investments (not trades).
May 12th, 2008 at 2:06 pmI expect an outcry of dissention (sic), since many of you are just trying to do your job. Know this: I am a contrary bearshitter (which means I’m bullish).
I’m out crying about that egregious spelling of dissension.
May 12th, 2008 at 2:35 pmThank you English Jake. Dooly [sic] noted.
May 12th, 2008 at 2:48 pmboca,
May 12th, 2008 at 3:01 pmI’ll see what I can do to put something together.
Do it Alpha.
Do you read Bill Rempell? If not, you will probably really like his portfolio and asset allocation strategies. He’s linked on my blog.
May 12th, 2008 at 11:42 pmRempel’s stuff is good, Wood.
May 13th, 2008 at 6:12 pmI own many of your buys from much lower levels…not sure I would add here myself - not that nimble myself… certainly is ballsey move…-these stocks are crowded trades since they come up on everybody’s screen..good luck -
CNX ..for example I bought CNX back in the 70’s sold them in the 80’s and missed that last run to 95 but bought FDG in the 40’s and and PCX in the 50’s instead…I like the natties more than coal now anyway…jrw
May 13th, 2008 at 8:10 pmI own some of these from lower levels too. These I bought, some new positions, and upped the weightings on several others because they kept coming up when I screened for stocks that are resilient during choppy or bear markets.
This market, while it appears to be recovering, still has the potential to turn in a nasty Q2/Q3.
I’m going to keep track and update these buys FBO the readers of iBC, just to prove that this is a market where stockpickers will fly and indexers will die.
Hopefully, I won’t be eating my words with humble pie.
