Is Guy Adami an Idiot?by Danny on May 20th, 2008 at 7:34:03 pm |
After watching Fast Money today, and over the life of the show, I have concluded that Guy Adami is an ass-clown. I can never tell what thesis he is basing his investment decisions off of, except that the loudness and intonation of his voice is reflective of his bullishness on a particular issue. It could be a guido thing, but I am loathe to write-off his noise as purely a function of heritage.
Does he even trade? I can’t tell. Does he parrot other commentators? Seems like he just echoes their themes. What value does he add? Pete does options, Karen does value, Macke is actually smart, Tim does hair gel, but what does Guy do?
My final complaint is that he only recommends shitty blue-chips making his recs more akin to “extremely slow and gay” money and not “Fast Money.”
I actually like Fast Money. I think the format of a discussion/debate among professionals is more informative and balanced, than, say, one person smashing buttons and shouting at CEOs that they should just man the fuck up and take the company private (HLF).
Well, what say you?

SHUT UP!!!
I’M SMART… NOT DUMB!
May 20th, 2008 at 7:43:32 pmI am NO Idiot. I am simply paid to be bullish and to make everyone else look smart by comparison.
Do NOT bite the hand that feeds, my Mamma always said, pisan.
Didn’t I pick MA and ride that train, huh? huh? huh?
May 20th, 2008 at 8:12:24 pmI’m dating myself here, but … back in the prehistoric days of Before Stock Trading on the Internet Became Popular, Guy Adami was the kind of big brokerage investment person who advised all the retail brokers with average investor customers on recommended stock picks. Usually blue chips (because “you can’t go wrong over time”), not too much in the way of technical analysis, and a buy and hold philosophy. I once worked for a guy like that. Back then it was considered high class investment strategy, probably true if your client only looked at his brokerage account statement once a year.
Still, he must have been great back in the day (he mentioned a few times about being on some big trading desks), or how would he end up on Fast Money in today’s investing world?
I would probably like Karen Finerman in person but her stock strategies drive me crazy.
May 20th, 2008 at 8:45:41 pmGuy reminds me of the fat Italian kid who sat behind me in fifth grade. His facial expressions gave away that he had no clue where he was or why the fuck he was there.
May 20th, 2008 at 8:56:37 pmOh he’s cute! Then again I think most men are cute.
May 20th, 2008 at 9:21:53 pmHe seems a bit stoned to me, but I wouldn’t tag him with “idiot.” That’s just for Dennis Kneale, and I think it’s cruel to even link the two.
But fuck… it’s like CNBC has even MORE Dennis Kneale lately… like they tried him out and he was a success or something. Yet everyone hates the dude.

May 20th, 2008 at 9:44:56 pmboca - I know I can count on you for a straightforward answer, and it sounds pretty accurate.
DT, that’s the point. Kneale is so annoying that surely he must boost ratings. Even the other anchors despise him. More ratings.
May 20th, 2008 at 10:00:41 pmDennis Kneale isn’t stoned, he’s on too much Ritalin.
May 20th, 2008 at 10:02:36 pmguy is alright. i’m sure fast money has limitations on the sizes of companies they can discuss. i know as a rule, cnbc isn’t supposed to talk about micro caps (i think the rule is sub-500M or something like that), so maybe there’s a higher threshold for adami’s show, since it revolves around ‘fast’ money. i dunno.
May 20th, 2008 at 10:44:58 pm[...] Yes, Guy Adami is an idiot. [...]
May 20th, 2008 at 11:17:15 pmDT-
you just said ” but fuck”?
May 20th, 2008 at 11:38:53 pmDennis Kneale is an idiot. Guy is ok but not for Fast Money. he bases most of his discussion on what big brokers put on their “conviction lists.” Fast money does not need him for that, they can simply put links to the conviction lists on their site.
Did i mention that Kneale is an idiot?
May 21st, 2008 at 12:01:57 amYou cracked me up with that one.
Yeah, Guy is on the show just for the funny stares he gives the camera while the others talk.
May 21st, 2008 at 7:06:17 amThe new guy, Joe Terranova, does teeth whiteners very well. And he can invoke the phrase “back of the board” more frequently than Adami can say “all my exes are from Texas”, which adds tremendous value. Plus, that fake Terranova smile just annoys me.
I think Terranova has clearly distinguished himself as the biggest putz, IMO.
May 21st, 2008 at 9:27:57 amGuy Adami is on the show for one reason. He is the voice of the very rich; ie Goldman Sachs, and he bashes Gold on almost every segment of Fast Money. Our government wants gold down to make our economy “look good”, and inflation to look non-existant to the average investor. He is BEYOND a joke.
May 27th, 2008 at 5:59:17 pmI have worked with Guy Adami on two separate occasions. First, he is a stand-up guy - no BS and always willing to help others.
He was a brilliant metals trader, both at Goldman at at AIG Trading. He was always very profitable, and he was comfortable taking big risk, when others shied away from it.
He’s very smart, and a very solid individual.
July 11th, 2008 at 5:47:21 pmJust two days ago Guy said the path of least resistance for the dollar is higher.. Anyone who does not understand the drivers of our currency does not deserve to be giving stock advise on national tv. He is making a complete fool of himself. Watch what happens to the dollar after the next TIC report comes out.
July 11th, 2008 at 11:42:08 pmsierra water;
Currencies have so many variables and drivers that I would challenge anyone to consistently analyze all the inputs and derive a prediction.
What makes your understanding and analysis so much more accurate?

I grew up with Guy and he is a stand up and loyal friend..
July 23rd, 2008 at 10:57:27 amHe’s just not be coming across correctly. I have to agree with Rock.. But criticism is always good.
I think Guy is very intelligent and has taught me alot. Now let’s talk about Joe Terranova. Watching him and listening to him is like getting a root canal without anythin while getting your eye gorged out with a dull knife.
August 25th, 2008 at 11:32:22 amthey are all idiots, but he is one cocky a-hole. his calls seem worse than cramer. when camera pans to him, he has that doofus look on his face, lol.
September 3rd, 2008 at 5:07:07 pmi like him better than macke. I think this could be VERY GOOD on a valuation standpoint
