“The Fly” is an avid investor, in all things that have potential to appreciate in value. My latest and greatest investments are in the food space.
Like baseball cards, unbeknownst to many of you uncultured type, food is a very popular amongst investors.
Here are a few of my latest buys from my local “food show”:
1987 Snapple Iced T (rookie) (Gem Mint)
1971 Danish Maid Butter (Factory Sealed) (Excellent Condition)
1934 Old Dairy Farm Milk (Bottle) (Fair Condition)
1909 Old Hat Cottage Cheese Company (Case) (Poor-Fair Condition)
1886 Coca Cola (case) (Gem Mint)
As you can see from my above investments, I am sitting on a gold mine. Some of my other recent investments include: corn on the cob, antiqued mushrooms, spaghetti, hand crafted lasagna, orange juice and my favorite uncut sheets of seaweed.
Being that food is going up in value on a daily basis, I expect to retire a very wealthy man, sitting on mountains of vintage cottage cheese cases and sticks of classic butter.

Unfortunately, I lost a ton on collectable fried rice – I bought late last weekend from an infomercial on Bloomberg that was on right after Muse. The guy said it was a can’t miss – rice was sold out from all Costcos on the left coast. Oh well, I only have two more payments of 29.95 left too go – maybe I can recoup on limited editions (and numbered )jars of Palm Cooking Oil shaped to look like “deep in the money call” Lenny Dysktra
I once lost a fortune in damn ham and egg futures. Those filthy bastards are worse than the Peanut Butter and Jelly contracts.
Just make sure they don’t force you to burn the shit as fuel pretty soon. I would lock that shit up and protect it with heavy artillery, aka mounted .50 cal.
You don’t seem to be diversified enough.
I can probably get you some vintage Hostess Twinkies and Cupcakes from the 60’s.
Do you keep them in your man cave with your Spoons and Oatmeal Bowls?
I’ll trade you a pound of sterling silver flatware for a bag of flour and a bushel of corn. How do we get licensed as the IBC Direct Commodity Exchange?
i was trading a lollipop company, but i took a licking when it was dissolved. the whole thing was centered on bank activity, and, when it cracked, they kept the problems under wraps until after they took everyone’s money. =(
I recently inherited a large collection of antebellum food canisters, all of which were manufactured by the “Injun Banquet Food Co.” I would rate the canisters themselves to be in “VG/G” condition, while the food inside to be “YUM/MMM.”
Can anyone here give me an idea of what these might be worth? I really need an expert opinion…
Thanks,
Winston
Fly, you definitely had a few drinks at dinner
I’ve got an old 5 lb can of Folgers Coffee, circa 1930’s. Good condition. Has a picture of a clipper ship and a sail boat on it.
I have many bottles of old wine, tons of rice and Ramen Noodles.
The rice and Ramen’s have been really shitty investments so far as the lack of depression in this country has not increased demand.
The wine is good, but I have trouble keeping it in the account.
I’ve got 3 words for you: petrified sloth dung
Coffee, excellent, that’s why you’re The Alphadawgg.
I had no idea you were all astute investors.
I inherited a 1942 (war time) box of Corn Flakes from my Grandfather, factory sealed.
At the latest Food Show, I was offered $50,000 for it. Apparently, some Brit was going to recycle the corn contents and sell it on the open market. Corn flakes, made circa 1940’s have a very high corn content.
Unfortunately, I declined, since I did not want to take the taxable gain.
I’ve got a collection of cheap scotch!
BOOYAH!!!!!111
The US Government’s new inflation data can be equated to the new Enron’s earnings numbers.
You can buy just about anything that has value, and i will go up in relationship to dollars.
Coffee is for closers.
Wikipedia just confirmed that 1987 was indeed the rookie year for Snapple iced tea.
Besides Fly, who would bother to research/know off the top of their head the actual year for something like that. Typical…
As was 1886 for Coke. However it is not a rookie, for Coke had two editions that year.
I own the 2nd edition, sadly.
Speaking of baseball cards, I have a Willie Randolph rookie card. Care to make an offer?
I collect digested food from famous persons:
White wine and from Marylin Monroe
Kosher pickles from Sammy Davis Jr
Unidentified meat from Gene Simmons
French fries from Jimmy Carter
and the rarest of all…
Snipe from Alec Trebeck
I am heavily long large blocks of cheddar.

read slowly and understand what deflation’s true purpose is.
This article concerns the japan’s liquidity trap!
Any resemblence, and understand how today’s inflation can be pictured with this article
Now i am pro-inflation till 2010. Thank you very much, now go suck on a thick girl.
rules:
never bet against oil or ag for too long if neccessary
always project markets “slideway” actions
use volatility to find quick trend momentums
Anyone heard about “sovern funds” may move from bonds into equity (Fox from Goldman Sachs accidently hinted)
I am long of a dozen boxes of Flutie Flakes … also unwilling to sell due to cap gains taxes!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flutie_Flakes
Fly can you tell me the ETF that would get me long everything at Golden Corral.

China and India are sure to love this outfit.
I had a dream BOOM went to $86.
I am collecting Pognes, an orange-flower flavored brioche baked only in an obscure part of the Rhone-Alps Region in France. The stylized razor-cutting before baking of the chubby, donut-shaped loaves makes them look like they have been circumcised which set them apart from all other kinds of yeasted baked products. Your food collectible has to have an unique ‘edge’ so as to appeal to the most idiotic collectors who only will cough up big bucks for unique items.
Fly I have a floor seat at the chalkboard where they trade cheese futures if you need me to place any trades. There are 5 to 10 bids per day, hence the chalk board.
The Fly owning a Snapple rookie bottle is not unbelievable, as Snapple (as opposed to CRAAPL), like the Fly, is a Brooklyn-based product.
Or was, until that Boston Red Sox fucker Tommy Lee stole it for $200 mm.

Aside: Fly, did you happen to read the WSJ article on Auggie Busch and his family w. regard to teh InBev bid? Sounds like a real prince, old Auggie. Unfortunately “prince” in it’s original meaning.
Anyway, they mentioned that BUD was trying to make a bid for HANS last year… perhaps when they had that run up?
Gappy,
I bid you $10/unit for that Camembert, 10 units.
Having a cocktail party tonight. Can you direct me to the Vino Exchange?

STLD is breaking down very hard here, it looks good to short.
Loving my fucking MA here! WAhoooooooooooooo!
Wood or any of the other T/A goons out there can you give me your thoughts on my short of STLD chart?
Good to see you MichelleB – sometimes I just need some female company around here.
Gapping, got any Brie?
Gapping, I’m not watching it in real time, but it looks like a good short to me. Watch support at 34. It could still have some buyers there. RSI(2) is nearing oversold, but is not there yet. My gut is that it goes to 32. All in all, lower highs, lower lows, hang in there.
Boca, sorry only poor mans cheddar. But feel free to put in your orders, here are some quotes: http://www.cme.com/wrappedpages/misc/cheese.html
Thanks Wood.
Bullshit QTWW continuing to snort thumb-thick rails of high potency Peruvian flake.
And I imagine will continue to do so, unto cerebral hemorrhage.
Short squeeze starting on LEH? Currently up $1.60. Just like Fly said the other day.
I have a Flintstones lunchbox and matching thermos. Rusty, poor condition. Do they even make lunchboxes anymore?
