Spent a portion of the weekend doing Fly-like activities on the PS3: knocking/running over old ladies, punching off moustaches, calling people fucktards, acting like/being the king of the world, investing in Mother Russia, going for ‘hot coffee’ with the ladies, etc. You could say I was living the digital high life in the best edition of GTA yet. The critics were right (only the 5th game to receive a perfect 10 from GameSpot, joining the N64 Zelda, Chrono Cross, Soul Calibur, and Tony Hawk 3)!

In the ‘real world’, it’s once again expiration week, which usually brings a bit more volatility and general tomfoolery to the markets. It also makes earnings straddles/strangles all the much more exciting (related post from the PG).

Earnings season is unfortunately winding down so the pickings may be a bit slim… Looking to play the following:

I doubt there is a short term trade there, but just wanted to mention on BX … it’s moved up nicely from the 15’s, recently went up through 20 intraday but could not close above it. The interesting thing is that it is the only financial investment firm (that I’m aware of) that claims to have no leverage, and has been buying up distressed debt by the handful. Their long term future returns should be very nice indeed.

lol, Fly like activities on GTA4… I never thought of it that way. I’ve played GTA4 it’s pretty sweet, but I know if I buy that game, I’ll never get anything done… ever.

Big front page article today about the GTA franchise and it’s author, who’s apparently something of a nut.

GTA4 cost over $100mm to make (that’s eye popping), and has already grossed over $500mm.

You probably already know that EA is trying a hostile on it’s TTWO owners right now.

boca: I’ve got my eye on BX for earnings. And don’t let a few disgruntles get you down.

JG: I’ve only scratched the surface of what all you can do in the game, but I’m not surprised it cost that much to make. Not just the programming/time that went into it, but the voice acting/directing and all the licensed content must’ve cost a pretty penny. But they’ve created a believable living virtual city, which I find amazing.

The sales numbers are jawdropping. EA is just bitter that they couldn’t/didn’t close the deal earlier and will now have to pay a higher premium.
