Celebrate the Day!by DPeezy on May 13th, 2008 at 2:24 pm |
What a great day! Basking in the glory of the following:
- (CSIQ: 32.42 +7.56%) up 30%!
- (STP: 47.81 +2.82%) up ~10%, in sympathy.
- (SIGM: 17.13 -3.71%) holding support @ $20 & up 6% in the process.
- (LUFK: 92.79 -1.45%) breaking out above $78 to the tune of +5%.
- (MELI: 30.87 -0.61%) up 7%, although I was late to the party with the straddle.
I was thinking of an appropriate video to post, but the only one I could think of was the one from World Cup 2006…the official anthem (”Celebrate the Day”) with the accompanying video showing some of the greatest moments from World Cup history.
Obviously the video is 100% soccer, so the JakeGints of the world should not click it (might cause permanent damage). It is also in German, so if you find that grating to your ears, click here for the English version (not as good IMO).

Congrats. Nice call on CSIQ.
May 13th, 2008 at 2:31 pmNotice how most of these are Ragin’ ‘MadStocks’ Cajun approved. That man is on a roll. Butter!
May 13th, 2008 at 2:39 pmCongrats DPeezy, I want to stab myself for not getting back into STP heh.
Ragin Cajun is en fuego today, props to RC.
May 13th, 2008 at 2:42 pmHoly crap, that’s the “best” of 100 years of World Cupdom? You can tell the best parts were the ones that looked the most like (American) football.
This was my favorite World Cup — featuring the Germans v. the Greeks:
May 13th, 2008 at 7:41 pmHa! I love that World Cup as well.
“He accused Confucius of having no free will. And Confucius, he say name go in book!”
The video, btw, certainly does not contain all the best moments. Just SOME of the greatest, or most memorable ones. And just so you know, there have only been 18 World Cups ever (since ‘30).
May 13th, 2008 at 8:15 pmunfortunately for the United States, the majority of people rate soccer solely on the world cup. the world cup is the lowest level of soccer there is, despite what most think. the teams don’t even practice together on a regular basis.
Club football is where it’s at. 10x better than internationals. real rivalries. not just winners and losers, there’s placements, cup competitions, relegation, promotion. real competition
May 13th, 2008 at 8:21 pmIndeed.
Sadly, the World Cup final, the greatest showcase for the sport, is often a dour, boring affair that will not entice new viewers (aka. Americans) to the sport. Teams play “not to lose”, rather than to win.
You also tend to get a lot more ‘neutral’ spectators at the international competitions, which takes away from the atmosphere.
But, as Gunners says, there is nothing that compares to a good domestic/club rivalry. Check out Arsenal v. Spurs; Celtic v. Rangers; Milan v. Inter; Real Madrid v. Barcelona; or even Chivas USA v. LA Galaxy and you may just find yourself hooked.
May 13th, 2008 at 8:30 pmMLS has definitely picked up in quality lately. That Chivas vs LA Galaxy fixture is actually enjoyable to watch.
