Elections - I am quitting

by BEAS on May 6th, 2008 at 1:17 pm

Lot has happened in last few hours for me to think that this is fun. I put lot of energy into these elections. I have worked in all three continents America/Asia/Europe and I asked all those guys to cast vote for me.

But what do I get - false claims of proxy usage or whatever etc…

I guess an alpha male or dog or whatever wins…real hero goes back home saying Life is not fair…

Bye all..It was all fun while it lasted

Funny things..whenever I post trivial stuff..post ranking is 5 immediately. Fate or hatred…two sides of same coin

  2. hattery Says:

Like I said, if my presumptions are false, I’m sorry.

  3. BEAS Says:

well does not matter…I guess people find it hard that a popular guy want to have a tab instead of starting his own blog..
I think I should start my own blog and then come back once people can see traffic I can bring

  4. Gunners Says:

    five stars!

  5. DPeezy Says:

If the claims are so false, how are you quitting so easily and leaving behind all the ‘effort’ you put into this?

  6. brushbuck Says:

Whatever it is you might have just tried to say. At any rate, bye, see ya’. Don’t let the doorknob smack ya’ in the hinnie on the way out. Imean way way out.

  7. BEAS Says:

See I think effort has taught me something

It is tough to make people believe stuff till you can do it independently.
I guess since I was new on site..people assume as if I am new on earth too. There is life beyond this blog and those people seem to luv me. They seem to care enough to come out and vote for me.

I guess super delegates did not like that..a real democracy

  8. Gunners Says:

what people didn’t like is that you were an unknown, and you showed up and started your campaign by talking shit to people, especially me. bad moves

  9. The Fly Says:

Actually, when people in America vote for a President, they do not accept votes from China.

My point: the readers of the site are supposed to elect the candidate. Having non-readers vote for you, simply due to “love,” is a bit disingenuous, don’t you think?

  10. BEAS Says:

It is not people who have come new will be non readers..They are new readers..They will read what I have to write. If they care enough to vote…they will read too..

I was talking to J in the morning too to turn the feed so that they can subscribe. It is easy to reach users if they can subscribe to RSS feed.

Plus most of them are in Europe and USA and not in Asia as you might like to believe. Many of them hold USA equities as well as have keen interest in USA markets because it impacts them.

I think it is short sighted to think that non American viewers don’t interest or have no interest in American stocks

  11. BEAS Says:

My Point : They are not voting for love. They discovered new website through my campaign. So they will keep coming back to read your and other bloggers view too.

  12. JakeGint Says:

    Eggsactly.

Seriously, I thought you were a joke being perpetrated by the Fly. If you really want to land a tab here, you’re going to have to put a little bit more time into your posts to earn the “street cred.”

No offense. You “bring it,” and they will come.

  13. ducati998 Says:

    Fly baby,

As usual your analysis is flawed [nothing new there]

The internet, is global, unlike citizens voting for a government, thus your national boundary argument is spurious and basically nonsense.

Second point…you constantly brag about site traffic. If this candidate brings with him new readership…how is that a negative?

How many of your actual readers are operating under multiple pseudonyms anyway?

    jog

  14. JakeGint Says:

Good, we need more foreign input. I would actually welcome more readers (and posters) from Asia. That’s the new “land of milk and honey” after all, right?

  15. BEAS Says:

As I have mentioned lot of times. I have lot to post but I came when election fever was on. I decided that I should focus on winning first.

Quality comes with time.. I agree ..and that is all I am saying. Give me 3 months and then see and compare…Why shoot guy because he came in at bad time

  16. JakeGint Says:

    Dooc,

Clue in. First, no one’s arguing against “new readership,” no matter where it’s from. We’re just concerned this sudden influx is a one time visit (to vote) and then good-bye.

Second, w. regard to multiple pseudonyms, that has no impact on site visits or even votes, which are registered according to IP address.

  17. JakeGint Says:

BEAS — no argument there. You have have a bit of the Barak Obama sydrome. You’ve only been here a couple of weeks and you want to be President.

Give it some time, and let people warm up to you, and you should be fine.

  18. ducati998 Says:

    JG,

Best you learn to read son.

    jog

  19. BEAS Says:

I am saying..new guys will stick…give me time to prove that..

Plus most of my friends are not able to vote as big firms have everything behind proxy ( so only one post from whole company is counted)…

As for stocks..I agree ADRs are becoming big on indexes in USA..Plus global recession will bring next wave of outsourcing..an insider view can help us firms which are doing good and can benefit from it.. That I bring on table..apart from technology focus

  20. JakeGint Says:

    Dooc,

    Will do, oh Bwana!

  21. ducati998 Says:

    JG,

Excellent, it becomes tiresome responding to uninformed, inaccurate and lazy posts.

    jog

  22. boca Says:

BEAS, for me it’s not about where you’re from. However, it did matter to me that you didn’t bother to answer my questions about who you were. Today, the last day of the election campaign, was the first day I’d seen you mention anything about your background (in VC). The current readers of the blog wanted to hear about you, and you didn’t oblige. Your friends already know you, the existing iBC residents did not know your investment style or background.

We want some real financial crack, not fake rocks made from baking soda and flour. Why should we go with an unknown quantity for 3 months, but you don’t think we deserve to know what kind of goods you have to offer?

Plus, never insult my friends. JMO.

  23. JakeGint Says:

    Dooc,

I know what you’re saying, dear boy. Why, it just took me all of eleven seconds to knock down some asshat Kiwi’s pompous gasbagging.

It’s a shame he doesn’t repair to his own arid blogvironment to enjoy the sound of his own moist panting….

  24. alphadawgg Says:

    BEAS,
I didn’t take you for a quitter. You’re in the lead. Why quit now?

If you’re who you claim to be, keep posting.

Frankly, I keep coming back to this site day after day for the ideas and virtual comraderie. Whether or not I get a tab, or have a blog of my own is not as important as harvesting the knowledge and ideas shared here and giving something back. The color commentary doesn’t hurt either. Intellect and humor. That’s the ticket.

What people think of me is actually none of my business. People are entitled to their opinions. Deal with it.

    Keep posting, BEAS.

  25. BEAS Says:

boca and others, I have written about myself in a new post. Please read and judge…I hope it helps to clear my position and justify my claim to be a tabbed blogger on this site

  26. BEAS Says:

Thanks alpha for your encouraging words…I surely will continue..

  27. ducati998 Says:

    JG,

What are you waffling on about.
There are no kiwi’s on this thread [as far as I know]

    Or, are you making assumptions?

That’s the trouble you see, when you make assumptions, you can very often become mired in inaccuracy.

Best you go back and re-read Fly’s comment.
Then get a tutor to help you with reading & comprehension skills.

    jog

  28. alphadawgg Says:

Is Ducati the new “On the Road” (Peachin)? (Or was it “Over the Road”?)

For you long time readers, remember when Jake and Peachin got into a tussle every now and then? Funnier than shit.

  29. boca Says:

I don’t recall Peachin’, before my time I think.

However, for some time I have thought that Ducati is not from New Zealand, but originally from somewhere slightly north of the Midlands in England. That is just an opinion based on the Brit slang used in his posts.

  30. ducati998 Says:

    boca,

I live in NZ, but, I’m a South Londoner. Bermondsey to be exact.

But, this is pretty common knowledge.

And, I eat lemons with wild jungle monkey’s

    jog

  31. boca Says:

Well then at least I had the country correct (having lived there) so perhaps I have a few analytic skills, linguistic and otherwise.

What drives me slightly crazy, is that where I lived in England, we used the phrase “Ta, duck” instead of “Ta, love.” Duck was pronounced just like your nickname Duc, leading to a somewhat mellifluous echo in my head when you say Ta. Nevermind!

  32. JakeGint Says:

    Dooc,

That you are not actually a Kiwi (born and bred) would not surprise me in the least.

They are a warm people, in my experience.

    _______________

As for a “tutoring” in reading comprehension, I guess I’ll “take that under advisement,” dear boy.

In the meantime, you might revisit Fly’s comments yourself. Try, this time, to grasp context with that voluminous cerebrum of yours.

  33. JakeGint Says:

And, I eat lemons with wild jungle monkey’s (sic)…

With “wild jungle monkey’s” what, old man?

Or are we to “fill in the blank” on that question?

  34. ducati998 Says:

    JG,

Well obviously it does surprise you, as your assumption bares testament to.

And you base your observation [in regards to Kiwi's] on how many observations…or is this simply another bias, driven by inductive reasoning?

Context and comprehension rather go together, which alludes again to your requirement to some tutoring.

Wild monkey’s…justt a further example of the lackk of any ethical or moral underpinninggs to this site. Someone, and I’ll guess the villagge idiot, aka FLY, thought to addd his childish stabb at humour [sic].

    jog

  35. boca Says:

OK, let me try to clear something up. Jake doesn’t get most of your slang, and probably most Americans wouldn’t anyway. So they take your words literally. This results in a typical American humourous response, which involves 1)teasing and 2)wordplay and puns. The American humour then goes right over your head and being offended, you lash out. However, as I said the other day, Americans always tease people they like. If they really don’t like you, they ignore you.

What we have here, is a failure to communicate. So saith Cool Hand Luke, and I think it applies here. Good luck Duc, I’ve done my best to help.

  36. ducati998 Says:

    Fly baby,

With every interference of my post[s] you demonstrate the ethical vacuum that you inhabit.

Unable to argue your position, is this how low you sink?

Anyone, and I am referrring to your blogggers, who possesses an ethical base, will I suspect question the advisabillity of being associated with you.

    joging away

  37. ducati998 Says:

    boca,

How many times have I posted utilising London slang?
    Never, is the answer.

I simply corrected Sahib’s incorrect useage.

    As to American humour….please.
It has the intellectual complexity of a 10yr old.

I should add…based on television generated observations. I haven’t viewed “live” comedy, so will keep an open mind on that one.

    jog

  38. boca Says:

Proving my point that there is a cultural divide… actually I don’t think you get our complexity. To you there is none, because you can’t see it.

Complaining tends to get on the bad side of Americans as well.

You’d be surprised how well people would treat you if you treated them with respect, and engaged them in discussion instead of issuing flat out declarations of their utter worthlessness to you.

Perhaps Americans are a specialized treat only to be enjoyed by those with an open mind. It’s a rather hackneyed and overused cliche that Americans have no complexity or culture. We are only too happy to allow the blind to go on not seeing the truth. Think of layers upon layers, before you know the real American way.

There are plenty here who do respect your smarts, when you can show us some respect for our smarts, you will be on your way to making friends, instead of throwing bombs over fences in inconsequential Internet feuds. You’ve convinced yourself we have no smarts, yet… how in the world do we manage to make a living???? We express ourselves differently but it’s not because of lack of intelligence.

I bet you could have a Mensa meeting here, but really, we’d find them kind of boring.

  39. brushbuck Says:

I can eat 60 hard boiled eggs.

  40. boca Says:

hahaha I’m sooo proud of you Brushbuck.

  41. alphadawgg Says:

brushbuck’s favorite movie could be “Cool Hand Luke”. Check it out sometime.

  42. ducati998 Says:

    boca,

Your post is worthy of a longer and more detailed reply, but in the comments section, I’ll try to keep it brief.

    American intelligence.

If we take the technology sector, as the hotbed of innovation, just recently, Bill Gates was warning that should US immigration policy change with respect to Indian immigration…the sector would suffer, as the vast majority of tech Corps, are driven by Indians.

American Financial corporations, with American CEO’s, need I comment further?

As to posts on iBC…direct me to the post[s] that you feel best represent your assertion.

American culture…which is, correct me if I’m wrong, Big Macs, jeans, Coca-Cola….

I will concede some very good American authors.

    jog

  43. brushbuck Says:

It’s definitly on my “favorits” list. And to be clear, I don’t remember the eggsact number–could’ve been 45. But in the spirit of Luke and of this thread, I kin’ do 60.

  44. JakeGint Says:

    Dooc,

FYI, many years of travel, global education, 12 years of rugby, bulge bracket IB employment, etc., have put me in front of quite a few Kiwis. I’d say the number is well over a hundred. Granted, it was a self-selecting, well-educated segment of that population, but for the most part, they were a very pleasant lot.

In fact, I never met one I didn’t like.

Wish I could say the same for the the dentally challenged Brits.

  45. JakeGint Says:

Brush, I think you are correct… it was something like 60 50.

Another contribution to American culture, I might add.

  46. boca Says:

Duc, a Big Mac is a food product (which I don’t eat), not an aspect of our culture. Coca-cola is a beverage, again, it would be stretching it to say it’s part of our pop culture. Jeans are fashion, which is always evolving and at best you could say fashion is at times artistic.

For genuine American culture and inventiveness, consider the following items:

    1) Jazz, hip-hop and rap, not to mention ‘country’ music.

    2) The phenomenon known as the Southern gentleman, ably personified on this site by Woodshedder and Ragin’ Cajun. A Southern gentleman is always polite, intelligent, gracious, appreciates the finer things in life and love, etc.

    3) American food: Who else would have thought up gator steaks, cornbread, peanut butter, a clam bake with corn on the cob, and yes, the infamous cold Coke over ice?

    4) Modern artists such as Rothko, Calder, Jasper Johns, and many more. Architects such as Frank Lloyd Wright, and glass artists such as Dale Chihuly and Louis Comfort Tiffany. In film, Steven Spielberg comes to mind.

    5) World War II.

    6) American friendliness.

Well, I could go on, but I do believe you will get the point if you want to. After all, it wouldn’t be true if I said that Amy Winehouse, Pete Doherty, a packet of crisps with warm beer, and the Prince Charles and Camilla summarized all there is to know about England. In fact, it would be a bit patronizing and insulting if I said that. Odd, no?

BTW, I despise the all banks, including American banks, but it has nothing to do with American culture.

  47. Woodshedder Says:

Boca, you possess an incredible set of debating skills.

Note the American, low brow innuendo coupled with the genuine Southern gentleman’s compliment.

  48. alphadawgg Says:

I must be out of touch, trading stocks, shooting my guns and driving my pickup while throwing empty cans of Bud out the window.

    Now that’s, Americana, redneck style.

    (Actually, I’m kidding. Aren’t I?)

  49. brushbuck Says:

    Boca…thanks.

A.Dawg…that’s how we used to do it when we were young and dumb. Now we get out of the truck before we shoot…mostly. And we always take our empties back into town to the recycling bins.

Jake…hardboiled or otherwise, eggs don’t get any better than with a freshly cut up liver, or better yet, heart, tossed in the black frypan with some bacon and mega slices of Walla Walla sweet.

Prediction: In the anals (sic) of IBCdumb (double sic) this will heretofore be known as The Great Pump and Dump Election. Appropriate yet ironically odd, no?

Final thought of the day: Ducati’s got issues.

  50. boca Says:

A-dawg, I should have put rednecks on my list of Americana greats. In the heat of the moment, I forgot. I used to own a pickup BTW.

I think I put Ducati to sleep which means I won. Yay!! All’s well that ends well.

  51. The Fly Says:

    American Culture:

is represented by the melting pot of hard working people who live here.

    We have it all.

  52. ducati998 Says:

    boca,

With regards to the BigMac, was that not glorified in the Quentin Tarrantino film Pulp Fiction…as Le Grande Royale.

McDonalds, as a corporation, and this American cultural icon is in how many countries now?

Contrast that with your example of the “Southern Gentleman” which I might add was simply an extrapolation of the English gentleman, minor nobility.

I take it also that these paragons of good taste, who endorsed and exploited the slave trade, and who are the core of the Ku-Klux-Klan today, are examples that you would also wish to highlight?

While we’re on slave issues, the “Black” music [excepting country] that you use as an example…AFRICAN-American….correct?

American cuisine. I’m taking this as an example of the fabled American humour that I “just don’t get”.

American banks have EVERYTHING to do with American culture.

You use WWII as an example, why have you excluded WWI, as if one is a valid example, so then would the other.

What is the point that you wish to make?

Beer. For an American to pass comment on beer is almost the laugh of the day. We have ales, bitters, stouts, and the odd lager.

For the sake of brevity, I’ll end here.

Too bad I can’t experiment with local Maori custom, and throw you into the pot, to watch you melt.

But of course, POT, is somewhat of a sore point.

    jog

  55. boca Says:

I’ll answer on only one issue because it’s the only one worth responding to, as your assumption that you “don’t get it” is correct overall.

The issue I am referring to is one of racism. Don’t ever assume that no one reading or posting on this blog is black, or, that no one has black family members. Ragin Cajun and Woodshedder have nothing to do with racism or the KKK, both of which I despise.

I have tried to communicate, sadly it did not work, and I am done with you. Fool.

  56. JakeGint Says:

We can get our teeth fixed [if necessary]
Unfortunately brain transplants are not readily available.

    That’s readily apparent, my friend.

I’m half lucky I guess — I don’t have to “read” your teeth.

  57. JakeGint Says:

    Chortle.

So let me get this straight… we should exempt jazz from the American cultural pantheon because… it was invented by blacks??

Speaking of “the KKK,” — what’s the Brit equivalent you’ve since joined?

    Skinhead bikers?

  58. The Fly Says:

“I’m half lucky I guess — I don’t have to “read” your teeth.”

    Classic line.

    Elect this man.

  59. Woodshedder Says:

Funny thing about Jazz. It wasn’t invented in Africa. It was invented in America. For it to not be an American art form, the extension would have to be made that Blacks are not Americans.

Few people know that the Banjo as we know it today is based on a traditional African gourd instrument. Are we to therefore say that Bluegrass is not an American art form?

Back to the blues, for a minute. I believe there is a relatively well-known British band by the name of the Rolling Stones, who would not have invented the brand of what is called Rock and Roll, where it not for American blues artists influencing them. Are we to assume then that British rock and roll, and pop, a la the Beatles, is therefore not British, but African?

Finally, since it is well-documented that homo sapiens left Africa to populate the rest of the planet, I assume we are to then blame Africa for the good, and evil, that ever was, is, and will be.

  60. ducati998 Says:

    boca,

    You’re breaking my achey-breaky heart.

The point of the matter is that the points you attempted were poorly selected, poorly researched and thus, just poor.

    jog

  61. ducati998 Says:

    JG,

See there you go again, demonstrating beyond a shadow of a doubt that you cannot READ.

    Where, did I post INVENT?

    Correct, I did not.
You assumed INVENT. By ASSUMING yet again, again get the context and overall comprehension incorrect.

With regard to Afro-Americans, a term that a proportion use about themselves, why do you think that is?

As such, I specifically questioned just how “American” something is when the practitioners claim an ethnic modifier.

The British equivalent are; BOM and National Front. Difficult to join when I live in NZ.

    jog

  62. ducati998 Says:

    Wood,

Already covered the INVENT point, viz. Jake cannot read.

Herein lies the problem, you all make gross assumptions without any evidence.

Then to compound the problem, you take an incorrect assumption and extrapolate it, ending up with a complete nonsense.

You question why I am beginning to query the intelligence displayed on this site?

    jog

  63. alphadawgg Says:

If I win, I will send a hit man to Duc’s house just to give him “the shakes”.

  64. ducati998 Says:
