Gas Prices Capped by Technology?

by yeomps on May 14th, 2008 at 5:26 am

It turns out that gas prices are effectively capped at 3.99 for many small gas stations. Why is this? because that is how high the rotating numbers go. In addition, several old gas pumps do not allow for a total sale of more than $99.99 (once again numbers do not go up that high). Fixing this problem is too costly for these small stations so I wonder what they will do. This is like Y2K for gas prices… only, now, we are screwed if they fix the problem or not.

There was this place in North Carolina where we filled up my buddy’s boat. we come idle-ing (idling?) up to the tank and it says $1.65. we were going, “HELL YES!” but it was $1.65 for a half gallon. that’s how they got around the technology.
