Om Malik, a tech blogger I respect, has a great article on his blog today about a new development at [[NVDA]]. A highlight from the article:

“In a demo at Nvidia headquarters two weeks ago, I saw a device slightly larger than an iPhone power an HD rendering of a Pixar short called “For the Birds” on a big-screen TV. It was connected via an HDMI cable and it looked good at 720p. I get that some people don’t mind watching movies or TV on their cell phone or iPod screens, but if I’m able to download that content and plug it into a TV, that’s an entirely new ballgame for travel and sharing. I want that device.”

Nvidia is developing some of the technology (a chip?) for that device. You can read the whole article here at Om Malik’s site:

I don’t claim to fully understand the technology involved in this development, but the tech person I live with (Mr. Boca) says that this is big, as in huge, and worthy of our attention here at iBC. He wanted to make sure I held onto my shares long term as it could be very positive for NVDA.

[[NVDA]] is up nicely today by the way.

    Thanks Boca…interesting.

  2. boca says:

Does this seem vaguely reminiscent of the picohP concept? Interesting and a bit odd, no?

  3. Woodshedder says:

That was my thought, exactly, boca.

Things seem to be progressing nicely in PicoP land…runwith lasers, not chips. Rumor is GLW (mvis supplier) has conquered the green laser. Check the mvis action lately. Fly said he would re-enter mvis in the $2’s. Not sure he’s going to be able todo that.

Thanks for the info Brushbuck, I didn’t follow the MVIS and PicoP saga closely.

I was merely guessing the NVDA is developing a chip, I have no idea from the article what the technology consists of, and don’t know if NVDA has released the specifics.

    Boca,

Just so you know: I’ve been long MVIS for a number of years now. I’m neither a technocrat nor a gadget guy. My financial adviser whose office is in the same neighborhood (as mvis) put me onto the stock because of what he saw as “amazing technology with unbelievable potential.” i.e. the potential of a mega homerun down the road. Problem was that former management almost busted the co. Enter current ceo A. Tokman, formerly with G.E., who totally changed the co. from board level on down…is turning it into a lean mean fisghting machine with laser-like focus and i.m.o has been executing brilliantly. The proof will be later this year when PicoP is to be introduced as a stand-alone adaptable to many devices, and then mid 09 “the holy grail” when it will be cell phone embedded

Other companies are also working on their version(s) including TXN and 3M and may even beat mvis to market with a stand alone. However, from what I’ve read from posters who have been to the various trade show, etc, none of them compare with the PicoP in terms of size, power, clarity etc.

If Mr. Boca is truly thrilled with the NVDA concept, then I strongly urge you to do your own dd on MVIS. As i said I’ve been long for years and have a full position (i.e. a whole heck of a lot more shares then I have any right holding) in the stock at an average pps of $4.25.

Aside: I was brough to Fly’s old blog by a post/link on the mvis yahoo msg board fall of 06 when Fly first got interested/excited about mvis’s prospects with Tokman at the helm. If you can find Fly’s old posts and vids from this time (flyon wallstreet) it would be worthwhile…and hilarious. Also, I do not nor ever have posted on any website other than this…just couldn’t resist getting in on all the irreverant comments.

    glty
