i’ve concluded the purpose of govy stats, put forth by govy bureaucrats/stataticians, is to keep the people from revolution & relacing said useless bureaucrats with truth tellers
i was chatting with some guy, now retired, whose 1st job was working for greenspan around 1985. He gave greeny his report & greenie gave it back telling him to white out unfavorable data. Hence the beginning of taking food & energy out of inflation stats. And of course there are the egregious ‘productivity’ gains, designed to take another bite out of the real rate of inflation.

Notice how inflation really took off after we left the gold standard in the early 70’s.
