Luminescent Glittery Objectsby cuervoslaugh on July 2nd, 2008 at 10:21 pm |
Amidst all the gloom there was some glitter, however finding it was much harder than normal. Only three new items came off my screener that I feel worthy of sharing.
Mostly because I think shorting is, in this market, kind of an easy target. There’s the whole issue of schadenfreude it entais that makes me wonder about polluting mental space by willfully taking bets on some else’s idiocy.
Mom always said that when one sees a bobito, to remind one’s self that ‘There but for the grace of God go you’.
Anyways - it’s any ugly business out there with oil making new markers every day and bankers crying about the end of the world.
About that last part - yeah they took and are taking a beating but let’s get real here for a minute - has anyone considered that they might be making a bigger deal out of things so that at some point when their shares are so ridiculously low they can make a killing?
This way, they get to hoodwink Main Street into ‘transcending their means’ (if I might borrow a line from a Boondocks strip from yesteryear) and when Main Street has forked over every last penny - the bankers can suddenly begin performing their feats of financial levitation again.
After all, if you repeatedly set the bar so low - people get really excited over very little.
But, then again - I perhaps think too much about stuff.
On to the Picks:
Topping the bargin basement bin of biofuels is [[GNB]] which looks good if it can be had for the $3.6-3.8 range. Amongst my usual caveats would be that biofuels are going to have a hard row to hoe if they’re going to compete with the rising costs in the same commodities that make up food stuffs.
SeraCare [[SRLS]] just got relisted and is tearing it’s way up the charts though it’s a biotech company I think, if all things are equal $4.9-5 is reasonable buy in for the relisting mania.
Having doubled in the last half, Challenger Energy Corp [[CHQ]] is proving that even up here in the 902, black gold is real gold. They are an offshore oil exploration company and subject to many of the same vagaries as the rest of that hotly viewed industry.

Do your own freakin’ homework. I post for my own amusement and to document if I have learned anything at all about this market - mostly from my putterings around with obscure technology and being contrary like. This could have bad effects on your bank account if you invest based on my musings.
