Finally a sensible proposal for an energy policy!!by NakedTrader on July 8th, 2008 at 2:39 pm |
I have just finished reading “Beyond Fossil Fools” by Joseph Shuster. It’s not yet available in stores but Amazon has it in stock. If you want to understand the hurdles we face and a plausible way to energy independence this is the book. The author is the brother in law of a friend of mine and is a retired engineer who knows this shit inside and out. Also, all the proceeds are being donated to energy research. It is well worth the few bucks it takes to buy it.

Might you elaborate on the gist of this tome? Which side does it fall on, the Obamaphile windmill powered scooter crowd, or the grown ups? Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for new non-fossil sources, but if the “sensible proposal” doesn’t involve drilling for fucking fuel, it’s not sensible. It’s getting comical watching these automatons spout the need for us to “get off oil” and use alts, while apparently not realizing that oil (or some derivative of it) is required to make the investment in the oft cited new energy sources…
July 8th, 2008 at 9:09 pmMore peak oil BS. Engineers can be as full of shit as anybody - in fact they’re more disposed toward it, since they’re not trained to look at the big picture.
July 8th, 2008 at 11:34 pmWTF?? Since when did the PG become a place for unpaid advertising bullshit?
Do you not realize the Fly has people who will come to your house to “collect” for this kind of nonsense?
Better alert the Missus.

July 9th, 2008 at 12:37 amThe gist is this: for the next 25-30 years we will need fossil fuels to bridge to new energy sources. The alts, wind, solar, etc will not do it. The long term solution will require heavy reliance on nuclear. I agree we need to drill now….but that’s no solution to our country’s major long term problems. I’m not shilling for this guy but his ideas are pretty well thought out and just might make some folks rethink their own position. Now back to making some bucks.
