Fantasy Football?by DPeezy on July 28th, 2008 at 10:40 pm |
I took a swift kick in the nuts today despite having a delta-negative portfolio (ex.: buying [[CHK]] near the top, completely mismanaging my [[VZ]] strangle, selling [[CAKE]] puts at the day-highs, etc.), so it’s time for something completely different tonight. Well, at least until my daily research and such.
So…with the NFL preseason starting next week and the regular season following a month later, it is high time to get started with the yearly Fantasy madness (and before some of us get distracted with the Olympics). In addition to my involvement with my usual band of pigskin chums, I was looking to maybe get an iBC league going.
We had pretty good success with the iBC March Madness pick ‘em league, I thought, so I’m looking for a similar turnout and involvement. Indicate your interest in said venture by voting or leaving a comment.
Assuming we have enough interest, we can then decide on where to hold it (Yahoo, ESPN, NFL.com), how serious to get (pay/free), etc. I might be willing to even do a trophy at the end, if such a thing appeals to you. Be sure to state any preferences in your comments.
That is all. Let’s hear it all you Eli Manning fanboys!

I’m game, let’s go with YHOO.
July 28th, 2008 at 11:29 pmDon’t get me wrong, I love professional football almost as much as I love my family.
But I’ve never gotten into the whole “fantasy” thing.
Fer cripes sakes, I’m a NY Giants season ticket holder, and they just won the Superbowl for the third time in my lifetime.
Isn’t that fantasy enough?

July 29th, 2008 at 12:15 amMust be nice. But watch out for the snap-back to real-life, with the next Tom Coughlin red-faced tirade and the reemergence of the ‘Eli Manning look’.
Using your reasoning, I need to do fantasy, since my ‘home’ teams (Seahawks, Mariners, Sonics) just choke on the biggest stages (and/or get hijacked), while my ‘moved to’ team (Kings) just suck.
Oddly enough, I don’t play fantasy ’soccer’, as my Chelsea boys have turned into regular winners.

So Jake’s out, RC’s in. Who’s next?
July 29th, 2008 at 1:53 ami retired from fantasy a couple years ago, when i got sick of rooting for douchebags like chris henry to get a touchdown. i thought to myself, “why do i care if this guys scores??” i also thought it was annoying that i’d rather have amani toomer score, and i almost got dissapointed when tiki ran one in. so i would think to myself “no you idiot, that’s still good, you just don’t have him on your gay team.”
that being said, if i’m needed, i will join. but i wouldn’t be interested in betting on it.
July 29th, 2008 at 9:36 amPeez,
I was very disheartened to see the ‘Hawks let the Tiki clone go. He was a nice guy, and good soldier for y’all.
I think the Walrus has lost it.
_______
July 29th, 2008 at 10:22 amdid you say “Eli Manning fagboys”?
July 29th, 2008 at 11:45 amPeople are excited about the Walrus-in-waiting, Mora Jr. Personally, not quite sure what the big hype is all about. I’ve always liked Holmgren though - he legitimized the franchise.
SA was blamed for everything that went with the running game…many will be surprised when we suck at it again this year. I mean, Julius Jones & TJ Duckett are supposed to resurrect it…are you f’ing kidding me??
Even so, the NFC West is ours to lose.
