Back to more mundane items, let’s look at some interesting/unusual activity in individual equities:

  • DNDN, the speculators’ favorite vehicle was all the way up in 4th in the most actives list.  Results from the Phase III trial will be released tomorrow.  3:1 call:put volume, although I liked Andy Swan’s trade the best (I didn’t follow as I couldn’t get a low enough quote on the trade) – betting a smaller than expected move with a double diagonal.
  • The quarter’s theme: low volatility into earnings seen in BIDU, BMY, PFE, VLO,
  • A couple buyout rumours:  HES, IPI
  • Tremendous volume in CIEN Jun09 12.50 calls.  Almost 25k traded today, with the open interest standing only at 378.
  • Similar action in TIVO Aug09 10.0 calls.
  • High volume synthetic short trade seen in OI (August expiration – selling 22.5 calls, buying 15. puts).
