12 Huge Breakouts On Volume
Most of these are financials that you’ve likely never heard of. I think there is the potential for short term gains in these, provided you get your profit on within a couple of days, and honor tight stops beneath the entry price.

Crazy market.
I almost feel bad for the new investors who are being baptised by it.
September 18th, 2008 at 11:10 pmNo doubt.
Did it feel very easy to make money after the market bottomed in 02?
I keep thinking that if I can make money in this market, damn it should be twice as easy when things settle back in.
September 18th, 2008 at 11:15 pmWood is back! Thanks for the list.
September 18th, 2008 at 11:16 pmNo problem Gio. I didn’t go anywhere though, except to work. One of us has to hold down a real job, no?
In my previous comment, I should be more clear. I began making my first real trades in late 2003, and so I didn’t get to experience the transition from bull to bear.
September 18th, 2008 at 11:19 pmwow: I have never even heard of many of these guys. New leadership????

September 19th, 2008 at 3:10 am$NAUD, is off the chart–If the market starts out pre-market gapped up, I’m going to “short sell” immediately–
So what happens when the momo stops and everyone wants off the train and there are no short-sellers to buy back on the way down?
Check the FNM chart to see how it works.
Upside window appears to be about 4 days. This is day two.
September 19th, 2008 at 9:06 amnot touching any of these, for buying breakouts i’m sticking with Bill O’Neill’s rules. quality companies, earnings and revenue growth, profits, return on equity, real business case for breakouts.
this weekend i’ll run a stock screener for some real quality companies
September 19th, 2008 at 1:27 pmTakeover targets? Merge, or die.
September 19th, 2008 at 1:33 pmAlen, you missed the point. These are not stocks to get married to. I thought my statement about short term gains was fairly clear.
As for whether these are quality companies, I have no idea. The fact that most weathered the financial storm and were sitting just beneath 52 week highs is probably a good indication that they are NOT crappy companies.
September 19th, 2008 at 1:46 pmHey, I have a real job too. I guess, its sort of a real job. self-employed, so, i guess I can hang out here at iBC during the trading day. sometimes it gets in the way of work though. no wonder its mostly u and i that spend time here after hours.
